Working Double Shift

You might have heard from the AP newswire that our school mascot costume was stolen:

Publicity stunt? Nope.   Opportunity for publicity? You betcha.

I called up Michael, the caretaker of Blue II, around 2pm yesterday. By 2:30 we were shooting video of Blue II running all over campus. 80 clips and 2 hrs later, I had the material and was ready to run with the idea…. Butler Blue II searches all over campus for his sidekick.

I had originally planned on doing a voiceover but I don’t have a ‘bulldog’ voice and didnt want the audio to detract from Blue II, so I went with subtitles instead.

I got home from work and started on the project until 6:30p.  Then Jen and I met our softball team for a night at the batting cages/driving range/DQ.  We got home at 9:30p, and it was time to get to work again.  With Blue II on the Smiley Morning show at 7am, I wanted to get the video out of the door by then so they could promote it.

I finished the soundtrack and video track sometime around midnight, and had a final production at 1:30am.  After some failed upload attempts due to compression settings, I sent the final piece to Vimeo around 3:00am and took a quick 2 hour snoozer.  Woke back up at 5am, and uploaded to YouTube as well.  By 7am, the YouTube video was live (not HD, so I wanted the Vimeo but it didnt get done in time so I had to use YouTube as a backup).

Blue II and Michael hit the air from 7a-8a while I did heavy promo via Twitter and Facebook, as well as many blogs who have mentioned the story.  I continued to build links and generate buzz until about 9:30am.

9a yesterday – 9a today = 18 hours of work.   Needless to say, I’m exhausted.  But here’s the final piece, hope you enjoy it.  Haven’t done much editing since back in the Twosouth days, so I loved it.
