Anniversary Recap
// August 7th, 2007 // Brad's Life, Indianapolis, Weddings
Finally got some pictures together from our anniversary weekend. We headed down to Louisville for the weekend and stayed at the 21C Hotel in downtown Louisville. This hotel was awesome. If you ever need a reason to go to Louisville, or just want to get away, I would highly recommend staying here. The staff at 21C was extremely helpful and friendly, and we also had supper at Proof on Main, the restaurant connected to the hotel. I had a steak there for supper that was on a bed of morel mushrooms… amazing. I usually only get morels once a year when they are picked in the spring, but I had missed the crop this year, so that was an awesome surprise. But I digress.
21C is a combination of a hotel and an art museum, and the art is throughout the entire place. Every floor, every room, everything. There are pictures below showing some of my favorite pieces. We also had a room looking out on to the Ohio River, but it was less than impressive since we were on the top floor, which was only four stories high. The $60 surcharge for the ‘river view’ is not something I would ever do again. I would probably go with the Atrium Suite and have the balcony instead.

Jen made me an awesome scrapbook of our first year, I hopefully can get some pictures of the pages and post them up. It rocks. She also got me a few photos and frames for my office. I got her a ‘teacher bag’, and an iPod nano+FM for her drive to work. I also made our wedding DVD, which is a whole other blog post in and of itself.
Also that weekend we went to Kentucky Kingdom, home of the TOWER OF POWER, aka the Feet Chopper. It was a great time. Apparently once a 13-year old girl loses a few feet, no one shows up anymore. We rode 20 coasters in the first TWO HOURS. Sickness. After that we thought we’d been coastering enough so we went to the water park, which was great. Except for the freekin’ $9 it costs to rent a locker (+$5 deposit).
Now, I’m not one to let The Man rip me off like that, so here’s how it went down. You pay $9 + $5 to get your locker ($14), then you get $5 back when you turn the key in ($14-5=$9). Still with me? So we’re getting ready to leave, and I see a little high school guy looking at the sign with his little teeny bopper girlfriend. He’s obviously WTF’ing the cost, so I walk up to him and say “Hey, let’s both save some money. You give me $10, I’ll give you our locker. Then when you’re done, turn the key in and get $5 back.” Now obviously he could not comprehend the awesomeness of my plan (and my mind) at first, so I had to break it down a little slower. “Ok, I paid $9 + $5 deposit for this key. $14. If you walk up there you will do the same thing, and get $5 back when you turn your key in. Instead, you’re going to give me $10 (which takes my cost to $14-$10=$4), and when you’re done with the key you’ll turn it in and get $5 back ($10-$5 = $5). So, they’re basically only getting $9 total for the locker instead of $18.” He understood, we swapped money for key, and back to the coasters we went. After a few more we headed back to Indy.
That’s where you think the Anniversary Extravaganza is over, but you’re sadly mistaken. Apparently someone a long time ago came up with this amazingly ridiculous event of eating the top tier of your wedding cake on your first anniversary for good luck and as an omen for long life together. If it’s that easy, let’s eat cake every day. So, after 2 days of defrosting our delicious goodness was ready. Pictures below, of course. First thing people will probably say: “I DIDN’T KNOW YOUR CAKE HAD WORDS ON IT!”. Yep. You missed it. It was amazing. Second thing people will probably say: “HOW DID IT TASTE?!?!??!1111″ Well, I threw up within the half hour and missed work the next day. And I have since comfortably placed this warm moment and memory of life on the back side of my brain.
All in all, a great weekend to celebrate a great first year.

We totally tried our wedding cake after a year and it was utterly disgusting. Whoever came up with that tradition was playing a sick joke on all of us. Well done, person who invented that, well done indeed.
wow… Our cake top was really good… We at it over the period of three days (it was huge, so big we actually couldn’t finish the whole thing). Sorry ’boutcha luck.
Did you defrost on the counter, or in the fridge? That can make a difference I’m sure (we defrosted in the fridge)…
We definitely did the fridge for 2 days, then room temp for 6 hours or so. It wasn’t TOO bad, and I did eat a LOT of icing, so maybe my icing-gluttony led to my sickness.
Brian — I just realized I hadn’t even seen you since we went to KY Kingdom until work today. I have some Tower of Power pictures for you.
Oh, and PS — I actually put Bella on the table for that last picture. She hasn’t gone totally unruly during the Cage Days.
She did put a teeny tiny scratch in the table though, which didn’t earn me any Husband Points.
Oh, and PSS – The table is a part of a 70 year old set that has been passed down to Jen. Ouch.
