We are coming up on the 1 Year Anniversary of blog.bradjward.com, and it’s been pretty fun so far. Let’s reminisce.

It’s a tea party.

====================================
While you were sleeping and the snow was falling, many patriots were busy trying to secure freedom for our children.
Yes, the American empire under George Bush is a costly disaster. But it doesn’t have to be this way.

On December 16th, 1773 patriots stored aboard a ship in Boston Harbor and dumped its contents overboard. They cried out, “Down with King George!” We know this act of rebellion as the “Boston Tea Party.” It sparked a revolution.

Today, you have a similar opportunity. Since last night, Dr. Ron Paul has received $1.4 million in donations from individual citizens. Join us:
https://www.ronpaul2008.com/donate/

Who is Ron Paul?
He’s a family man: He’s been married to the same woman for 50 years. He has five children and 18 grandkids.

He’s a scholar and a healer: Dr. Paul earned his MD from the Duke University School of Medicine. He has delivered 4000 babies.

He’s a veteran: He was a flight surgeon and is an Air Force veteran.

He’s one of us: He was born in a small town in PA, worked on a farm and at a drug store. He’s even lived in Detroit for a while.

Brief Overview of Congressman Paul’s Record:
He has never voted for an unbalanced budget.
He has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership.
He has never voted to raise congressional pay.
He has never taken a government-paid junket.
He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.

He voted against the Patriot Act.
He voted against regulating the Internet.
He voted against the Iraq war.

He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program.
He returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year.

I don’t even have words for this. This makes me want to like politics again.

Dana Perino, please stop talking.

Seriously, please stop talking. I know it’s your job, but just stop. If you decide to keep talking, try to make UIS look good.

County wants more cameras around building

// May 1st, 2007 // 1 Comment » // Politics, Springfield

From SJ-R.

Keyword here is MORE. They already have cameras, but don’t consider it to be adequate. Instead of spending $110K on more security for a county building, why don’t we start with adding some security to our high schools? For example, Lanphier has nothing; no metal detectors, no cameras, and I would think the risk of something happening at a local high school would be more than some county building.

Sheriff Williamson says “If somebody comes into the building, does something and leaves, we have no record of it.” Well…. welcome to 90% of the other buildings in Springfield. At least you have a record of who comes in to the building from the cameras you already have outside. But since someone shot (once) at the building (three or four years ago), there is obviously a need to spend $110,000 on new cameras, right?

I noticed Will has left a comment on the page, so look for something from him too.

UIS Grad getting some national recognition.

‘UIS ‘95 PAR Grad Dana Perino was promoted to fill in for Tony Snow as the White House press secretary near the end of March, according to the SJ-R. She quickly vaulted into the national spotlight………. by making fun of Vermont.

The Digg community is tearing this story apart, along with Perino. Here are some quotes from the discussion:

“What a joke. Why isnt the PRESIDENT answering questions instead of some disposable, arse wipe flunky? Press Secretary? Is this person even elected?”

“She’s turning out to be a bigger asshole than Snow.”

“Dana Perino is evil.”

“Indeed. I bet she’s a wildcat in the sack, though. Know what I mean? Winkwinknudgenudgesaynomore.”

Along with many other off-color comments that I’d rather not post here (Think Imus). These people aren’t giving her a break by any means.

Who said working in the White House would be easy?

Obama closing in on Hillary

// February 27th, 2007 // No Comments » // Politics

Saw this on digg when I woke up. Original story here.

Good news and bad news in this article. 40% of Democratic voters polled said that they haven’t heard enough about Obama to have an opinion yet. Compare that to 3% for Hillary, and there’s still some work to do. Spread the word. Check out the article.

It’s time to Barack.

It’s official, Obama is running. I watched the announcement from the warmth of home in Rushville, but I still got goosebumps listening to some of the things he said. It’ll be interesting to see what Eric has to say about the event.

SATURDAY SATURDAY SATURDAY!!! OBAMA-RAMA!!!

// February 9th, 2007 // No Comments » // Brad's Life, Politics, Springfield

So, here we are. 1 day away from the beginning of Obama-Rama. And my great town, Springfield, IL, is going to kick it all off. I gotta admit, I’m pumped. Obama seems genuine. Real. Ready. He’s definitely got my vote at this point.

Unfortunately I am not going to see the announcement because I’m heading back to Rushville, and it will be so freeking cold outside. Jen’s still down with the flu, so we’re just going to relax this weekend. I get to see Eric I. tonight for the first time since…. the wedding? Thanksgiving break when we had Chili’s, our ritual. The bottomless chips are no match for us.

Also in the local blognews, George Clooney is reportedly in town and will be eating at Sebastian’s tonight. Pretty cool, but it reminded me that I need to make reservations for tomorrow night! Jen and I need to celebrate Valentine’s Day early because we are babysitting a family of 4 kids while their parents go somewhere nice and warm for a week.

Here’s a couple pics I took of Obama when he was here for the ALPLM opening, for your enjoyment.

And I’ll leave you with “joke of the day” from my Mom:
Mom: Do you know Obama’s mom’s name?
Me: No. (wait for it……..)
Mom: OBAMA-MAMA!!!!

Stay warm,
Brad
